Celery

January 28, 2015 By Exploring Healthy Foods Leave a Comment

health benefits of celery

Celery gets its vibrant green colour from the pigment chlorophyll. It comes from the same family of plants as parsley and fennel. Celery stalks are grown in bunches with leafy tops. It has a nice crunch to it and somewhat salty taste. Depending on the celery stock, some are more stringy than others.

When it comes to nutrition, celery is known as the “weight loss” food because it is low in calories (16 cals per cup) and high in fibre and water content. It makes a great snack especially when combined with peanut butter or hummus. Celery is also great for juicing or in a stir fry entree.
