Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts Review

February 18, 2015 By Exploring Healthy Foods 7 Comments

hemp hearts

If you have been following my blog for a while, you may notice hemp seeds, a recurring product in most of my smoothies. I absolutely love hemp seeds because they are a great source of healthy fats, fibre, vitamins and minerals {more on the nutrition facts below}. Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts {aka hemp seeds} are always my go-to hemp seeds brand because they are a quality product, affordable and certified non-gmo.

What are hemp seeds?

Hemp plants are grown in Canada. Hemp seeds are located at the top of the hemp plant and can be used to make hemp oil, protein powder, hemp milk or kept as a seed. Hemp seeds have a nutty flavour similar to sesame seeds.
Side Note: There is a lot of misconception around hemp seeds and marijuana {yes marijuana, you read that right!}. Manitoba Harvest explains and debunks the myths very well so I will let you read that here.

I put a couple tablespoons of hemp hearts in my smoothie every morning at breakfast! I am vegan and love that they are a complete protein source as well as omega 3 and 6 fats!

I love Hemp Hearts! I always throw them in my smoothie each morning, and if I ever have any cereals I throw them in there as well. I like to put them in oatmeal/PB energy balls I make. I love the taste and texture, and that they give me a ton of nutrients without me even really realizing it! :)
