The Vitamix blender is a very powerful blender that seems to be one of the most popular appliances in the nutrition community. For years I’ve used my Oster brand blender (which costs about $80) and it worked great for the most part. Over the last few months I had been making smoothies almost daily and I noticed this blender was not keeping up and seemed to be losing its power. At this time, I could not bring myself to buy a $500 blender so I found myself using my Magic Bullet (which I’ve also had for a few years) to crush ice and frozen fruits and then I would add that into my Oster blender to blend it all together as the Magic Bullet is not very big (or at least for my smoothies!). This got old fast as it’s super inefficient and I felt like I was always cleaning blenders. I started researching higher speed blenders (mainly Vitamix and Blendtec) and decided to bite the bullet and purchase the Vitamix!
The Product
Can I just say the moment I used the Vitamix I knew I couldn’t go back to any other blender! This blender is so powerful and crushes frozen fruits/ice so quickly and easily it’s aaaamazing! The consistency of the final product is so creamy and smooth. I’ve definitely never experienced that with my cheaper blenders. Another thing that I love about this blender is that there is only 2 pieces that need to be washed. I’ve only had the product for a week so I can’t tell you anything about the product when used over a long period of time but it does have 7 year warranty which is great! I purchased mine through Costco (online) and it was $469. It took me awhile to finally submit my order online as that is A LOT of money for a blender but I am extremly happy with the product so far and have been getting a lot of use out of it.
Is it worth the price?
If you’re someone who uses a blender almost daily, than the Vitamix may be something that you would want to consider purchasing. It has great warranty, a big motor and is a lot more efficient (takes less time to blend items and less time to clean). That being said, I’ve made A LOT of different types of recipes with my cheaper blenders and they worked out fine (you may just have to work at it a bit more). So if you use a blender every once in awhile and don’t want to purchase such an expensive blender, you should be fine with a regular high speed blender.
Recipes
Dates & Bananas
The first recipe I tried was simply 2 bananas, 4 dates and ice. I was so amazed after less than a minute this blender blended these items so well and my smoothie was so creamy with no chunks whatsoever. I figured this would be a good smoothie to test out first since dates are very chewy. Definitely passed the test!
Looking at this smoothie, it doesn’t look like it would taste very good but I’ve had it a couple times this past week and it is deeelicious!
Note: The banana in this picture has not fully ripened yet (I just used it for the picture). Bananas are best eaten when they have brown spots on them and can be peeled very easily. They will taste a lot better and digest easier when they have fully ripened.
This smoothie is great to drink in the morning as it helps with digestion and is packed with fibre to keep you full throughout the morning and has lots of vitamins and minerals!

Mango & Pineapple
If you follow me on Instagram than you probably saw this photo of my mango and pineapple smoothie from the past weekend. This smoothie is very simple but so refreshing and nutritious! I blended about half a pineapple, 1 mango and ice.
A blend of everything..
I made this smoothie after a 2 hour bike ride so I was pretty hungry. I threw a few different fruits in the blender and it turned out very delicious. I used 1 white peach, handful of blueberries, raspberries, juice from 1 orange, handful of almonds, tbsp of hemp seeds and a nectarine. SUPER delicious and hydrating after a good workout.
Banana Ice Cream
If you’ve never tried banana ice cream then you’re definitely missing out! Freeze a couple bananas overnight and in the morning add the bananas, handful of raspberries and strawberries into the blender. The frozen blended bananas create the consistency of regular ice cream, perfect for those dairy free or a healthy ice cream alternative. I love keeping frozen bananas on hand that way when I get a craving for something sweet, I can simply whip up some “ice cream”!
What are your thoughts on the VitaMix blender? I would love to hear from you!

Samantha
I am so jealous! I so badly want a Vitamix, but need to wait until I’m settled in a city (and country!) that I’m going to stay in for more than a year! Until then I can dream, but they’re so legendary! I can’t wait until I’m a proud Vitamix owner!
Love the blog by the way – awesome stuff! xx
