A couple weeks ago I was in Minneapolis and had a mojito at the Cheesecake factory. They have the best mojitos which inspired me to try making a mojito recipe with less processed sugars. The majority of processed sugars come from the syrup they add to the mojito to sweeten it up. In place of this syrup I used pure maple syrup which is a natural sweetener and it does not alter the taste of the mojito. There is just enough in this recipe to add a sweet taste and thick consistency however the mint overpowers the maple taste. This recipe is easy to make with minimal ingredients – white rum, maple syrup, lime juice, mint and sparkling water.
Now of course alcohol is not healthy but this is a great alternative if you are looking for a alcoholic beverage that is not loaded with processed sugars. If you don’t have a shaker, I suggest using a mason jar since it has a tight lid. You can also easily bring this drink with you in a mason jar to a gathering or party!
